Designed by sculptor Bela Lyon Pratt, Indian Head gold coins are among some of the most interesting in American numismatics. We can safely say that these coins are both rare and unique, and any investor should consider having at least one Indian Head gold coin in their collection.
Indian Head gold coins were minted between 1908 and 1929, and each one contains .2419 Troy ounces of gold. Both the $5 and $2.5 dollar versions feature an Indian head on one side of a warrior in full headdress, and an eagle on the other. What makes these coins especially interesting is that they were created using an incuse design, meaning that their features are sunken into the coin rather than being raised above. No other coins minted by the US were created this way, and because of their sunken surface, these coins have been able to withstand the test of time. Indian Head Gold Coins
