Three Dollar Gold Coin

The Three Dollar gold coin was one produced by the American mints in Philadelphia, Dahlonega, New Orleans and San Francisco, and is a unique piece we’re proud to sell. First authorized for creation in 1853, these coins were put into use in 1854 but saw a very poor response from citizens, and never gained much popularity.

Re-strikes of the three dollar gold coin were created several times, including 1837 and 1876. These coins featured an Indian princess on the obverse with her hair curled over her neck. Her head is encircled with feathers reading “Liberty”. On the reverse of the coin is a wreath containing corn, cotton, tobacco and wheat.

These gold coins weight 5.015 grams, and are .900 gold and .100 copper. They come with a reeded edge, contain .14512 oz of pure gold and are an investment we are pleased to highly recommend.
