There are two well-known types of twenty dollar gold coins that were produced by the US mint, both of which represent a great value for investors, and are purchases we would not hesitate to recommend.
The first type of twenty dollar gold coin the mint produced was known as the “double eagle”. The double eagle was first created in 1850 and is part of the “Liberty Head” series of coins, the obverse features Lady Liberty, with an eagle on the reverse. There were three varieties of these coins produced in their almost sixty-year run, and all contain 0.9675 ounces of pure gold.
The Saint Gaudens twenty dollar gold coin was minted starting in 1907, and has a standing Liberty figure on one side and a flying eagle on the other. These coins are typically rarer than double eagles, but both can help build your portfolio.
